2012

Fireworks, 2012

So another year has arrived and inspired by various other blog posts on happiness, I’ve decided to make a list of things to do/see/achieve/avoid this year, in the vain hope of being encouraged to achieve them because they’re written down! Note I don’t like the idea of New Year ‘resolutions’ so will avoid such word from hereon in. Think of this as my ‘Happiness Project‘, as most of these unashamedly focus on me!

Travel:

  • Spend more time visiting parts of the UK that I have so far neglected (and take photos)
  • Visit the US, preferably San Francisco (and take LOTS of photos)
  • Visit at least one European city (Prague and Vienna are top of the list)
  • Take more time to escape London into the countryside, whether long walks or exploring National Trust estates etc (and, you guessed it, take photos)

Lifestyle:

  • (Predictably…) Take more photos, improve my skills and print more photos for my flat
  • Drink less wine but increase the quality of that drunk (!!)
  • Find an active/sporty hobby that I’m likely to stick with
  • Take more exercise
  • Get a consistent amount of sleep
  • Eat more healthily and cook more meals at home
  • Keep up this website!

Home:

  • Plan a list of improvements/DIY projects for my flat, budget for them and execute them
  • Invite more people over for dinner/drinks/parties (to share the aforementioned wine)
  • Read more books
  • Plan and build a better home cinema/entertainment centre
  • Automate as many of my backup/computing/mundane tasks as possible
Finances:
  • If the above allows, pay off as much debt as possible
  • Continue paying into my pension
  • Build up a ‘flat disaster recovery fund’ for boiler breakdowns, tornadoes, flooding etc (OK so those last two are theoretically unlikely but the concept is the same)

I’m nothing if not ambitious, so let’s see how I’m doing in 6 months!
