2012

Fireworks, 2012

So another year has arrived and inspired by various other blog posts on happiness, I’ve decided to make a list of things to do/see/achieve/avoid this year, in the vain hope of being encouraged to achieve them because they’re written down! Note I don’t like the idea of New Year ‘resolutions’ so will avoid such word from hereon in. Think of this as my ‘Happiness Project‘, as most of these unashamedly focus on me!

Travel:

  • Spend more time visiting parts of the UK that I have so far neglected (and take photos)
  • Visit the US, preferably San Francisco (and take LOTS of photos)
  • Visit at least one European city (Prague and Vienna are top of the list)
  • Take more time to escape London into the countryside, whether long walks or exploring National Trust estates etc (and, you guessed it, take photos)

Christmas

Christmas

Currently travelling back from a wonderful Christmas up in the Swiss mountains. Thoroughly spoilt by beautiful scenery, lots of snow, awesome skiing and some great nights out with new friends. Bring on New Year’s Eve!

Commuting

Courage

WARNING: Rant

I’ve ranted online before about commuting in London and the misery that is ‘other people’. The journey to work requires courage, patience, calm and some good humour!

As an example let me summarise my ‘encounters’ this morning plus some handy hints:

A Fresh Start

New Day
I seem to switch the way I write online and blog platforms fairly frequently, having moved from WordPress to Posterous earlier this year and now back to WordPress again.
Anyway, this is a chance for a fresh start coming into 2012, and hopefully a better way for me to share news and photos with anyone who stumbles across my corner of the web!

Plus I’m really looking forward to using this site to share some of the fabulous writing and photography I come across online! It will help inspire and cajole me to take more (and better) photos on my travels and in London.

Parliament

I never get tired of the London skyline, whichever way I look I see something of interest or something new I haven’t spotted before. Coming out of the London Aquarium, I was  blown away by a combination of Parliament and the wintry sunset behind it.
This photo is currently my iPad and MacBook wallpaper and I’m rather proud of it!

Rosswald

I’ve rather fallen behind on my posting on this blog (if anybody reads it!) but above summarises rather well a perfect weekend I spent in Switzerland at the end of January. Wonderful weather & good snow.

Stonehenge

There are many places in England I have never been to and should, and many others I have been to many times and still love going back! Stonehenge is one of them; whatever the weather it is always impressive!

Idyllic

After a very successful and rewarding 2010, I spent a glorious few days between Christmas and New Year in the mountains of Switzerland, specifically the mountain village of Rosswald in Valais.

There had been 15cm of snow the day before we arrived, on top of the 75cm that was already on the ground. This meant digging our way to the chalet’s front or back door was a challenge!

On the morning of the 30th December we were treated to a lovely sunrise and I knew I had to get outside with my camera, despite the -10C temperatures. This is a chalet a little walk from our own and as you can see, everything was sparkling red, white and blue!
