The Valais

February 7th, 2010 § 0

I spent a lot of time this weekend at this spot in Rosswald. It sits at about 2400m and looks down over Brig and Brig-Visp towards Sion, Sierre and Martigny. Further round the corner is Montreux, Vevey and the shore of Lac Leman to Geneva.
One of my favourite parts of the world and one that should be shared!

Rosswald

February 7th, 2010 § 1

Rosswald is a small alpine village in the Valais (Switzerland) which is perfect for a weekend of relaxation and contemplation.
The skiing is just the right level of difficulty (blues and blacks) and on Saturday I was skiing on fresh powder with no need for thermals…perfect!
The weather was stunning. This was shot at 18:30 and the sky had this beautiful blue/pink colour.

Lac Leman

February 5th, 2010 § 0

I’m back in Geneva (specifically Nyon) for a few days of relaxation and skiing. The lake seems to be some stop-over point for migrating birds; there were hundreds yesterday.
As usual, the views over the lake to the Alps are incredible.

Half-Hearted?

February 3rd, 2010 § 1

Life is too short!
From now on, no half-measures, no doing things halfheartedly, all or nothing. And maybe I can try to ‘complete’ the other half of the heart. :)

St Paul’s Cathedral

January 28th, 2010 § 0

The walk from the London Eye to the Tate Modern, along the South Bank, has to be one of my favourites in London; particularly the view from the Tate over the Millennium Bridge to St Paul’s Cathedral.
Saturday was cold, damp and grey but a ‘flight’ on the London Eye lifted our spirits and a warming lunch in the Tate’s magnificent 7th floor restaurant was just perfect.
This was taken on the North side of the Millennium Bridge and after many attempts to ‘brighten’ the shot up, I’ve gone with a more atmospheric photo!

Gruyere & Aliens

January 13th, 2010 § 0

The above was taken on my recent trip back to Switzerland over Christmas. Gruyere is of course famous for it’s cheese and they do a mean fondue. But, did you know it’s also the home of H.R. Giger, the Swiss surrealist who worked on the Alien films? A rather odd combination, I admit!

This is also a good time to mention a new photography blog I’ve discovered, LightStalking.com. They have some great tutorials and some stunning examples to get those creative juices flowing!

Hampstead Heath

January 10th, 2010 § 0

Whenever there is news of snow in London, intrepid reporters are sent to Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath to capture the obligatory photo of children sledding.
There were plenty of sledding (and crying) children yesterday and the snow was a good 2″ thick with a fresh coating of powder. But the prize goes to the gentleman walking off the Heath with his ’ski du fond’ equipment…that’s dedication.

Switzerland: Always awe-inspiring

January 8th, 2010 § 0

Despite having lived in Geneva for a number of years, I am still blown away by how awe-inspiring most of the views are. Back in Nyon for Christmas with family, we took a drive up into the Jura above Lac Leman, and this was the view.
Not the best photo, not the best conditions, but if still takes my breath away!

Her Morning Elegance

This has been around a while but it’s still incredible….such a wonderful concept.
